SAPS Destroys 13,859 Illegal Firearms

 

The South African Police Service destroyed 13,859 confiscated and surrendered firearms in Vanderbijlpark as part of ongoing efforts to reduce illegal firearms in circulation. SAPS stated that many of the firearms were linked to serious crimes including robberies and violent offences.

 

Major Firearm Compliance Operation Conducted Nationwide

 

SAPS conducted 3,728 compliance inspections at firearm dealerships and security companies under the Firearms Control Act. Authorities seized 537 firearms from a dealer in Mpumalanga following alleged non-compliance findings.

 

SAPS Reports Increased Illegal Firearm Seizures

 

During nationwide operations between 16 and 22 February, SAPS seized 173 firearms and over 2,600 rounds of ammunition while arresting suspects linked to violent crime and illegal firearm possession.
